I wanted to know if it's possible to use the struts from a sedan on a wagon of the same year and generation. front struts are same but back are slightly different. Most likely yes, especially for the front. Go to an online parts site like Pep boys, or autozone. And look up both cars, and compare part numbers. Auto parts : Driving Light Acura 1995 . I have a classic car I need to sell. it is appraised at 13G and the car is running with new re-built transmission, tuned up engine and brand new brakes all around. I would be happy if I get 10G for it but there are a lot of lowballers and tire kickers out there trying to get something for pratically nothing so I want to know what would be the lowest you would go if you were selling my car. Some snot nose kid (must have been no more then 18 years old) came by, took a look at it. Told me he loved it but only wanted to pay 2500 for it. He was trying to argue that the colour was wrong, the interior was not the colour he wanted and that he would have to get the rust fixed (only 1 spot the size of a thumbnail) and said he would have to pay big bucks to get it all right.... Suzuki . How to Figure the Gear Ratio in the Rear End on my TruckRear end gear ratio has a direct effect on gas mileage, towing ability and acceleration. A low (numerically higher) gear ratio will give you better acceleration and towing power because the engine is turning at a higher RPM for a given speed. A high (numerically lower) gear ratio will give you better gas mileage because the engine is running at a lower RPM for a given speed. For instance, a low-geared rear end may turn 3,500 RPM at 70 miles per hour, where a higher-geared rear end turns 2,500 RPM at 70 miles per hour. There are a couple of ways to determine your rear end gear ratio. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Wheel chocks Jack Jack stands Piece of chalk Drain pan Ratchet and socket set CalculatorApproximate Method Step by Step : 1 Place wheel chocks in front of the front wheels. Shift the transmission into neutral. 2 Raise the rear of the truck with a jack and support it on jack stands. 3 Mark a line on the driveshaft near the rear axle. Mark a line on the tire pointing straight down. 4 Turn the driveshaft one full turn. While you do this, have an assistant watch the mark on the tire. The tire will turn more than two full turns for one turn of the driveshaft, probably more than three turns. You will have to estimate how much more the tire turns past the last complete turn. Turn this amount into a decimal fraction. For instance, if the tire turns 3-1/4 turns, it would be 3.25, which is close to a common ratio of 3.23. Exact Method Step by Step : 1 Set a drain pan under the rear axle. Remove the rear axle cover and catch the gear oil in the drain pan. 2 Place a chalk mark on the large ring gear that sits vertically in the rear end housing. Place a chalk mark on the small pinion gear that engages the ring gear. This gear is what the driveshaft attaches to. 3 Instruct your assistant to slowly turn the driveshaft while you count the number of teeth on each gear. Write down the number of teeth for each gear. Use a calculator to divide the large number by the small number. This will give you the gear ratio. For instance, if you have 40 teeth on the ring gear and 13 teeth on the pinion gear, divide 40 by 13 to get 3.0769, rounded to 3.08, which happens to be a common gear ratio. Tips & Warnings If you are looking for more pulling power and better acceleration, move to a lower (numerically higher) gear ratio, for instance, from 3.08 to 3.50. Note that your engine will turn more RPMs at a given speed than it used to, and your freeway mileage may go down a bit. If you are looking for better freeway mileage, you want to go the opposite way. This will lower your engine RPM at a given speed, but acceleration will suffer. For reference, here are some common gear ratios: 2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.50, 3.73, 3.91, 4.11, 4.13 and 4.56. The 2.73 through 3.91 ratios are common to domestic trucks. The 4.11 through 4.56 are common to Japanese trucks. There are many aftermarket options when it comes to gear ratios.
Suzuki . How to Figure Differential Gear RatioDifferential gear ratio is the number of times the drive shaft turns each time a vehicle's tires make one rotation. Different ratios are ideal in different situations: lower ratios are better for off-road use, while higher ratios provide better fuel economy and are more desirable for highway driving. The easiest way to determine the ratio is to divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion. However, the ratio can also be determined by spinning the tires and counting the rotations. The process varies depending on whether or not the vehicle has positraction. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Car jack Two 1-inch pieces of duct tapeVehicles without Positraction Step by Step : 1 Place the jack under the car near one of the drive wheels. Jack the car up until the tire is off the ground. 2 Place one piece of tape at the 12 o'clock position on the tire and one piece of tape on the drive shaft facing you. This will mark the starting positions. 3 Place the car in neutral, and then spin the tire 10 complete revolutions while counting the number of times the drive shaft spins. 4 Divide the number of revolutions of the drive shaft by five, or half the number of revolutions of the tire. For example, if the drive shaft spins 18 times over the 10 revolutions of the tire, the differential gear ratio would be 18/5 = 3.6. Vehicles with Positraction Step by Step : 1 Place the jack under the car near the drive wheels and jack up both drive wheels. 2 Place one piece of tape at the 12 o'clock position on one of the tires and one piece of tape on the drive shaft facing you. This will mark the starting positions. 3 Place the car in neutral, and then spin the tire 10 complete revolutions while counting the number of times the drive shaft spins. 4 Divide the number of revolutions of the drive shaft by the number of revolutions of the tire. For example, if the drive shaft spins 36 times over the 10 revolutions of the tire, the differential gear ratio would be 18/10 = 3.6. Tips & Warnings Check the vehicle's user manual to see whether it is rear-wheel or front-wheel drive. Use caution when working under a vehicle on a jack. Do not attempt to lift a vehicle while on an incline. If you turn to the right, the right front tire needs to turn at a slightly greater angle than the left front tire. Your car's steering arms accommodate this feat. (See Figure 19-7.) If your tires "squeal" sharply on turns, one of your car's steering arms may be your problem. How do you know if your wheels need aligning? Look at your tires to see whether they show any of the tread-wear patterns that I discuss in "Checking your tires for wear," and pay attention to how your car steers and handles. Does it pull to one side? Does the steering feel loose and sloppy? Is your car hard to handle after a turn? If your tires show any unusual wear patterns and/or you answered yes to any of these questions, your car probably needs an alignment. Suzuki . What does a Learner's permit allow you to do?

Chevrolet APV Cargo. * Figure 19-7: Turning Focal point radius. .Chapter 19: Checking Your Tires, Alignment, and Steering Checking your steering Checking your steering is easy. Just stand outside your vehicle, near the door on the driver's side. Stick your hand through the open window and move the steering wheel, with your eye on the left front tire. If you can move the steering wheel at all before the tire starts to move, then you need to have both your steering and alignment checked. There should be no "play" in the steering wheel before the signal is transmitted to the tires. As you drive your car, be alert to signs that it isn't handling as easily as before. If the vehicle seems to have a mind of its own and begins to resist you on turns (and pulling out of turns), take a good look at your tires for signs of wear caused by misalignment. Checking your tires for tiear You should check your tires for wear at least once a month and before and after long trips. To determine whether you need to (a) buy new tires, (b) have your wheels balanced, (c) have your wheels aligned, or (d) change your driving habits, simply read your tire treads for clues. Table 19-1 and Figure 19-8 show you what to look for. Suzuki . Where are relays used in a car?
